Perth is OK! continues busy month launching new sports vertical At Optus Stadium

May has been a month of moving and shaking at Perth is OK! including the unveiling of a total brand overhaul with Block Branding, alongside a complete website redesign with emerging Perth-based digital agency Hatchet.

And last Friday night saw the official launch of a new Sports vertical on the website in a private box at Optus Stadium with clients, contributors and close friends on hand to mark the occasion.

Perth is OK! Sports was born out of the lack of mainstream coverage on local and niche sporting stories covering everything from surfing, golf, triathlons to MMA, cycling and more, alongside an opportunity to tell unique stories within larger leagues like the AFL and NBL.

In an effort to make sure those telling the stories know what they’re talking about, Perth is OK! has already worked with the likes of revered Western Australian sports journalist Digby Beacham, while experienced digital sports journalist Ben Somerford (Stats Perform, AFL.com.au) has joined the team in a freelance capacity.

Editor-in-Chief Troy Mutton, said: “It’s not unreasonable to say we’re a sports-mad bunch in Perth and Western Australia, so it’s a a no-brainer for Perth is OK! to lace up the boots and get amongst the action.”

“Along with joining the cheer squads of the many fantastic, legacy sporting teams in WA, we’re excited to tell some of the grassroots-level stories that are the white line fever-fuelled foundation of this storied sporting state.”

A Perth is OK!’s survey earlier this year showed almost ¾ of their audience primarily used social media as their main source of news, which the media outlet intends to use to its advantage when talking all things sport in WA.

“Given our highly engaged social media audiences, we feel like we’re uniquely positioned to tell WA’s sporting stories to a new audience that won’t catch it on the back page or just before the weather report on the nightly news,” added Mutton.

Having soft-launched the vertical earlier this year, Perth is OK! already has clients such as the West Coast Eagles and TABtouch, with more in the pipeline.

“PiOK! is excited to work with local teams, businesses, and venues, fostering inclusivity and sharing all that’s good in WA,” said Accounts Director Casey Edmonds.

“As we team up, we not only celebrate these feel-good moments but also cultivate brand awareness and drive impactful campaigns within our newest thriving vertical. With many wins already with clients like the Eagles and TABtouch, we can’t wait to see what else we can achieve.”
