Perth Is OK! celebrates 500,000 Instagram followers, surpasses 1.7M pageviews in January

WA-based independent media outlet Perth Is OK! has continued its strong growth from 2021 into the new year, achieving record numbers across all platforms.

Originally launched on Instagram in 2014, the #perthisok hashtag was a tongue-in-cheek response to the city’s ‘dullsville’ tag by founders and proud locals Blake Kelleway and Luke Whelan – offering a community-driven response via user-submissions to the #perthisok hashtag.

Since then, Perth Is OK!’s combined Instagram following has grown to an impressive half a million users across their network of accounts.

In addition to their main page @perthisok crossing the 400K follower mark, the accommodation-driven @perthisok.stays has seen huge growth since its launch in August, achieving 53K followers. This is alongside food and beverage-focused @perthisok.local, which was first started in 2020 to support local small businesses during lockdown and now boasts 51K followers.

The Perth Is OK! website has seen similarly impressive growth. Having hit 1 million monthly page views for the first time in January of 2021, one year later Perth Is OK! broke new ground with a record 1.7 million page views for January 2022, as well as a huge 580K unique visitors.

The site was first launched in 2018, and has grown to become the ultimate local’s guide to Perth, exploring everything to do, see, eat and drink across the city, as well as WA at large.

As well as record page views and followers, the past year has seen Perth Is OK! hit significant other milestones, including celebrating 4 million #perthisok hashtags with an exhibition on Yagan Square’s digital tower, and continuing their record-breaking exclusive partnership with Bankwest.

Blake Kelleway, Co-Director, said: “These big milestones are a good and fun excuse to reflect on the journey so far and all of the hard work that has got us to this point. There still remains a lot of black hat tactics and shadiness in this industry, so we’re very proud that we’ve reached this achievement the right way, through 7+ years of consistently speaking to, learning from and endeavouring to provide value to our community on a day-to-day basis.”
