WA: Mental Health Commission and Cancer Council WA ‘What’s your Poison’ – 303 MullenLowe.

The word poison is not one I’d ever really associated with anything outside of great Hair Metal Bands of the late 80’s, and especially not alcohol and cancer. So the new ‘What’s Your Poison?’ campaign by 303 MullenLowe for the Mental Health Commission and Cancer Council WA makes a compelling argument. The ‘new news’ about your body converting alcohol to a toxic carcinogen called acetaldehyde gives us a nice creative link in the common question of “What’s your poison?”. As per usual with Beautiful Pictures it’s nicely produced, and a shout out to Nick for the sound on the VFX. Nicely done.

International: Hell Pizza ‘AfterLife Pay’ – Yarn NZ

I love a campaign that lives in the current zeitgeist, and the addictive nature of ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ lending schemes is at the forefront of the daily news cycle, along with the cost-of-living and housing affordability. So the idea of being able to pay for a pizza only after you’re dead is obviously quite appealing. The ‘AfterLife Pay’ campaign asked customers to sign a real amendment to their wills, allowing the cost of their pizza to be collected after they’ve bitten the dust (or crust?). The video could’ve been more polished, but it’s a great idea that gathered heaps of attention, and really demonstrated Hell’s commitment to its customers, both alive and dead.

WA: ‘Redheads Travel Free’ for Public Transport Authority by Moonsail

I’ll start with a confession.
That I, myself, come from a lineage of redheads. So, it comes with great joy to see redheads getting their time in the sun – without the need for SPF 50+.

And what better way to celebrate our ginger friends than one of the world’s most recognisable, Ed Sheeran, coming to Perth.

I love anything cheeky, and this campaign was a subtle way of encouraging people to reconsider public transport, as a way to see one of the world’s top creators of first dance wedding songs.

International: ‘The Blind Spot’ for Volkswagen by Ogilvy Cape Town

A black spot.

At first glance, this looks like a piece in a modern art museum. The kind that you would gaze at and nod slowly as you take it in – indicating your understanding and depth as a human.

Then you would shuffle to the side and gasp as the piece reveals itself.

This campaign is such a clever idea crafted to perfection, taking a problem, and executing it beautifully whilst also making you grit your teeth, bracing for impact.
