XR:WA virtual reality festival announced

Western Australians are invited to immerse themselves in a new virtual reality festival taking place later this year, as part of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival.

Titled XR:WA, the festival will present public and industry events that explore virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, computer animations and other forms of screen-based and immersive media.

XR:WA will provide an opportunity for participants to witness the latest innovative technologies, hear from the makers, and have their very own immersive experience such as through a virtual reality headset.

The industry component of the festival program will attract a broad range of local and international delegates to explore new ideas and experience local content from Western Australia’s growing immersive and interactive media sector.

XR:WA will take place from July 6 to 14, 2019 at venues across Perth and Fremantle.

Minister for Culture and the Arts David Templeman said “XR:WA will showcase the work of Western Australia’s virtual reality pioneers, while giving audiences a chance to experience immersive technologies first hand.”

Revelation is supported by the Australian and West Australian governments through Screenwest, Lotterywest, and Screen Australia.
