KidsCan: Too Hungry to Learn

Kids need an education to escape the poverty trap, but imagine trying to learn when you’re too hungry to think.

The soaring cost of living is fuelling an education crisis for New Zealand children living in poverty. To coincide with the start of the new school year, KidsCan launched its 2023 Back to School campaign with the aim to bring on board 450 new monthly donors to help feed a growing number of school children.

The campaign uses visual and audio techniques to highlight how hunger can disrupt a child’s learning. The demonstration of blurred and confused thinking is based on verbatim comments from children about how their hunger makes them feel in class.

New Zealand is facing a youth mental health crisis. With one in five teenagers experiencing mental distress, the support offered by Youthline is more important than ever. That’s why ASB announced a three year principal partnership with Youthline, ensuring more young New Zealanders get support when they need it most. We launched this commitment with a campaign encouraging young people to reach out to Youthline, by showing how the simple act of talking has the power to transform a seemingly hopeless situation.

SKY: House of the Dragon
The Monkeys, Part of Accenture Song
How do you make an international show feel uniquely New Zealand? You hijack the most Kiwi event there is. Sky didn’t just want New Zealanders to know that House of the Dragon was coming. They wanted to own the conversation. So, in a fully orchestrated immersive experience, we made it feel as if dragons had arrived, right in the middle of Sky’s most anticipated event of the year. The final game of the All Blacks Vs Ireland tournament at SKY Stadium.

The activation ran as an in-stadium event and live broadcast TV ad. The sounds of dragons screeching and flapping thundered as they approached the stadium. Their fire blasted across the sky as they landed on the rooftop. And their shadows were seen as they flew across the field.

Meridian: Nature
The Monkeys, Part of Accenture Song
Our first brand work for Meridian Energy, the platform enlists the help of Nature, a character who represents the natural world. Arriving on planet earth to inspire environmentally conscious behaviour, she uses her super-human powers to reward or discipline New Zealanders based on their actions.
