The West Australian Newspapers cross-platform audience sees increase in readership year on year

According to the latest Roy Morgan Readership Survey (12 months to 30 June 2024), 3.9 million people read The West Australian and The Sunday Times mastheads, print and digital, across an average month. This is an increase of 175,000 readers (4.7 per cent) year on year and the highest growth in audience volume of the major metro mastheads.

The West Australian’s cross-platform mastheads reach 64 per cent of the WA market each month, the highest state reach of the major metro mastheads.

In print, average issue readership of The West Australian Monday-Friday editions grew 10.5 per cent in the June quarter. The Saturday edition increased its audience by 11.7 per cent and The Sunday Times experienced a massive 26.2 per cent growth in readers compared to the March quarter 2024.

On an average weekday, The West Australian is now read by 340,000 people, 441,000 read The West Australian, Saturday edition and 362,000 read The Sunday Times. The West Australian has the highest state market reach among the nation’s metro weekday and Saturday newspapers.

WAN editor-in-chief Christopher Dore said the results showed consumers were still desperate to consume quality journalism. “While we are all being bombarded with misinformation and fed endless streams of dross, The West has remained relevant and reliable,” Dore said.

“Readers understand and value the journalism we produce, they trust our people and know where to turn to understand what’s happening in our State, and what it means for their businesses and their families.”
