The West Australian enters its second year of partnership with the Art Gallery of WA for Pulse

The Art Gallery of Western Australia played host to the launch of The West Australian Pulse exhibition on Thursday night, solidifying a second year of partnership for AGWA & The West in their quest to champion the creative arts as a viable career pathway for WA’s youth.

Up to 70 high schools state-wide were represented in the exhibition’s 31st year, with graduating students submitting pieces they felt symbolised the emotions and experiences connected to the world that enveloped them.

Kate Emery, The West Australian’s Social Affairs Editor MC’d the evening attended by both young and seasoned creatives, which included a youth fashion show and live musical performances from local artists.

AGWA Gallery Director Colin Walker shared his support for WA’s youth, with David Templeman and The West Editor-in-Chief Anthony De Ceglie presenting the Editor’s Choice award to St Mark’s Anglican Community School alum, Sky Biesse.

De Ceglie shared his personal creative journey, encouraging budding artists to pursue their ambitions in an industry that can be, despite common misconception, financially rewarding.

“The West Australian is incredibly proud of its sponsorship of Pulse and our driving ambition behind the partnership is to encourage, support and inspire students with a passion for the arts to keep doing what they love. There are jobs in the arts. There is a career path there. You don’t have to go work in the mines.”

The West Australian Pulse runs April 28 to August 20 at the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
