The Garden Gurus returns for 25th year
The 40th series of The Garden Gurus premieres this Saturday at 4.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now. Marking a major milestone in Australian television, host Trevor Cochrane (Destination WA, Our State on A Plate) and the team return for their 25th year, with fresh gardening tips, must-have plants, and creative DIY ideas to bring your garden dreams to life.
Trevor leads a familiar and trusted team of horticultural experts, including Neville Passmore, Nigel Ruck, Bonnie-Marie Hibbs, Matt Leacy, Sue McDougall and Simon Holloway. To celebrate a quarter-century on air, Trevor revisits some of the most memorable stories the program has captured, showcasing the evolution of the Australian garden.
In the premiere, Trevor meets the owner of Australia’s best lawn. In a masterclass for turf enthusiasts, he reveals the specific techniques and maintenance schedules required to make your own backyard grass look top-notch all year round.
To celebrate The Garden Gurus 25th year, Neville takes a look back at some of his favourite memories from the journey. Among his highlights are visits to Korea and Taiwan, as well as Singapore, where he enjoys an unforgettable bowl of laksa.
Nigel investigates a breakthrough in turf technology. He introduces viewers to a new hybrid buffalo grass that may prove to be the most resilient variety ever seen for the Australian climate, perfect for families and pet owners seeking durability.
Sue gets up close with some eye-catching new kangaroo paw breeds that are ideal for any waterwise garden. These vibrant, bird-attracting plans are tougher than ever, and Sue shows us how the latest varieties offer even more brilliant colours and better disease resistance.
Meanwhile, Bonnie-Marie provides a fundamental skill session on the “how, where and when” of pruning. She explains that pruning is far more than just tidying up – it plays a critical role in encouraging better flowering, stronger plant structure, and helps with growth for your favourite shrubs and trees.
