To remind the 300,000 visitors to AQWA to do their bit to keep our oceans healthy, whilst promoting the state’s container deposit scheme, Containers for Change, at one of Perth’s busiest tourist destinations, The Brand Agency used plastic bottles, cans and lids to create sea creatures.

This custom hoarding featuring the sea animals reminds people to use the Containers for Change bins on site to ensure their 10c drink containers are recycled. For every container returned 10c is donated to the AQWA Foundation, which supports the rehabilitation program protecting turtles and other sea life in our oceans.

More than eight million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans each year. That’s the equivalent of a truckload of plastic being dumped in every minute. Plastic debris injures and kills fish, seabirds and marine mammals. In fact, 86% of sea turtles have been harmed by plastic.

Adrienne Devine, Business Director, The Brand Agency said: “AQWA is a much-loved destination for all ages, and it provided the perfect opportunity for us to bring to life the message that every 10c container returned to a refund point gets another chance to live its potential, again and again. And not end up in our oceans. Using the containers themselves to get the message across made it even more powerful.”

Nicola Brandon, Head of Marketing and Communications, Containers for Change said: “More than 50 per cent of Western Australians admit to throwing their recyclable 10c containers into general waste bins when they are out and about. The partnership with AQWA has been a true collaboration that will see tens of thousands of 10c containers saved from landfill each year, while also contributing thousands of dollars in funding to the AQWA Foundation. It’s a win-win.”
