The 2020 Australian Millennial Report asks “How good is Australia?”

Now in its 3rd year as the most comprehensive annual study into the attitudes, behaviours, and experiences of young Australians, The Australian Millennial Report now charts trends since 2018.

To demonstrate the breadth of data the Australian Millennial Report has collected over 3 editions, the authors have set out to answer Scott Morrison’s famous valedictory address question from March 2019 “How good is Australia?”

Each edition of the Australian Millennial Report has asked thousands of young Australians a similar question- “How optimistic are you about Australia’s prospects for success in the next 5 years?” Now, with 3 years of data to compare, The Australian Millennial Report can demonstrate which attributes and attitudes are the best predictors of high national optimism, and which kinds of Australians are less positive about their nation.

Says Tom McGillick, author of the report: “In 2018, the goal was to produce a large, versatile, and local dataset for anyone trying to understand Australian Millennials. In 2020, with 3 years of responses to compare, we’re now able to demonstrate trends in attitudes and behaviours, and start to look forward to where they may be headed.

The 2020 Australian Millennial Report surveyed a nationally representative sample of 1239 Australians aged 20-37 about all aspects of their lives. The full 196 page report is available to download here.
