So Media Group acquires social media company Carma The Social Chameleon

Perth-based digital media publisher So Media Group has completed the acquisition of fellow Perth-based social media marketing agency Carma The Social Chameleon (CTSC) to accelerate their national growth plans.

So Media Group (SMG) has acquired CTSC to strengthen their social media management and advertising capabilities as it grows its pipeline of clients.

CTSC is a fast-emerging social media marketing agency founded by Carma Levene where she has delivered strategic consulting and social media campaign management for a stable of retainer clients. Ms Levene is also involved in the future of Perth marketing with her industry partnership with ECU, where she’s a Seasonal Academic.

With the deal completed, CTSC will operate under the SMG banner with Ms Levene being appointed to the newly created role of Head of Social.

For SMG, the move is strategic as it begins the company’s acceleration of its plans to nationalise its new media platforms under management.

In March, SMG completed a crowdfunding capital raise through Birchal raising over 170,000 dollars to fuel its three-phased growth plan that involves increasing its agency network, including social media campaigns, nationalising its core publication So Perth by replicating that model for each capital city and exploring new titles to engage younger audiences.

The brands currently under SMG are its leading digital media publication, So Perth, the definitive guide for where to go and what is happening in Perth and Western Australia, as well as emerging titles, So Binge, a national entertainment platform giving readers the lowdown on all things streaming, films and podcasts and national travel news and trends platform, So Where Next.

By adding the social media marketing experience of Ms Levene, SMG founder Adam Barrell commented on the company’s aspirations to be one of Australia’s leading social media agencies.

Barrell said: “There aren’t many people in the social media landscape who have the expertise that Carma possesses. Having Carma join SMG allows us to provide a dedicated social media offering that will be a leader in the market.”

Levene (pictured) said: “I’m stoked to join So Media Group’s incredible team and lead the expansion of their social media marketing offer. I know my clients will benefit from the combined experience of SMG, and I’m looking forward to some very exciting projects.”

In 2021 alone, SMG has delivered major content and marketing campaigns for Ritz-Carlton Perth, Edith Cowan University, Tourism WA and hospitality operator Three Pound Group.

Across SMG’s three media platforms, it has topped 1.4 million pageviews with its combined social media audience currently over 500,000 followers.
