Seven revisits West Coast Eagles’ 2006 premiership journey in new documentary series

The West Coast Eagles’ remarkable 2006 season comes to life in Kings of the Big Game, a new three-part documentary series premiering Tuesday, 1 September, exclusively on Seven and 7plus.

The series revisits the Eagles’ journey from the disappointment of the 2005 Grand Final to one of the most dramatic premiership campaigns in AFL history.

With superstar talent, enormous expectations and a season packed with twists and turns, Kings of the Big Game takes viewers inside the battles that shaped West Coast’s pursuit of a third premiership, led by coach John Worsfold, Chris Judd, Ben Cousins, Daniel Kerr and Dean Cox.

Seven West Media Chief Executive Officer, Maryna Fewster, said: “This documentary will resonate strongly with West Australians who lived through the extraordinary 2006 season.

“The Eagles are woven into the fabric of Western Australia, and the 2006 premiership remains one of those sporting moments that people across the State remember exactly where they were.

“Kings of the Big Game brings that incredible story back to life, and we’re proud to share it exclusively with Seven and 7plus audiences,” she said.

Former Eagles captain Ben Cousins, who features in the documentary, said: “Revisiting the season brought back memories of an extraordinary time in my career.

“We had a group of players who genuinely believed we could win it, but there were plenty of moments when things could have gone the other way. Looking back now, you realise just how much happened behind the scenes to get us to that final game.”

Across the series, the Eagles confront injuries, fierce clashes with Sydney, Adelaide and Fremantle, and the intense scrutiny surrounding the club as the pressure builds towards September.

The story reaches its climax in a Grand Final rematch with Sydney, where the two sides produce one of the great contests in AFL history and West Coast’s long road to redemption comes down to a single point.
