Scarborough Beach Mural gives reminder of important sun safety message
With two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, Cancer Council WA has seized the opportunity to remind beachgoers about the importance of sun safety with an attention-grabbing new mural.
The campaign, titled “Two Sides Of The Sun” was created by Gatecrasher in early 2022, has now been immortalised in a hero-sized mural, offering a unique cut-through of urban outdoor engagement.
Collaborating with Mural Media via OMD WA, the mural (located on West Coast Hwy, Scarborough) has already turned heads, wowed onlookers, and reminded hundreds of thousands of West Australians about the importance of UV protection.
The Scarborough coastline witnessed the rapid transformation of a bare wall into the impactful SunSmart mural within 48 hours, sparking immediate remarks and interactions amongst commuters & beachgoers.

It’s a painting of a billboard…
I’ve seen a few of these now – here on CB and out in the wild. What’s the purpose of painting it? Would seem to be the more time and cost intensive way of doing things. I get it if you were doing some form of street art, but to just paint a photo for an ad seems a bit excessive.
You’re so right. Let’s print everything, take the shortest route possible every time and maximise profits up the food chain.
Surely the message here is worthy of the extra time, care and effort? This painted sign will remain long after a vinyl solution is eaten by the sun.
