Paul Maguire appointed to the Print Advertising Director role at Seven West Media WA

There’s a new captain at the helm of Print advertising at Seven West Media WA and he’s no stranger to the industry or the media company. Beginning his career as an apprentice printing machinist at WA Newspapers in 2001, Paul Maguire brings 20 years’ of unique industry experience to the role, vacated by Liz Molyneux at the end of 2021.

Chief Advertising Officer, Nathan Cave, said of Maguire’s appointment: “Promoting Paul is a fantastic opportunity, he’s a Printer by trade and has been crafting a new trade for several years in the Advertising team. Liz Molyneux has passed a lot of experience to Paul during what has almost been like a second apprenticeship for him. Paul has a unique story to tell in that he’s moved from the Print Presses to the Advertising Team, he has unique skills and understanding of exactly what Print Advertising is all about.”

Taking on fresh challenges to expand his knowledge of the business is nothing new for Maguire. After a stint as print supervisor, he moved across to production planning and client services, before stepping into the advertising side of the company in 2019 as Advertising Features Manager.

“The combined knowledge he brings from his printing, production, operations and commercial experience, stands Paul in good stead for his latest undertaking – he may no longer have newsprint ink under his fingernails, but it certainly runs through his veins,” added Cave.

Maguire said: “I love the magic of print – the whole process, from the editorial and advertising aspects through to the production journey. That excitement and pride still sits with me; it hasn’t diminished after 20 years and it never will. We have many fantastic high-performing people at Seven West Media who are doing great work, and I’m looking forward to galvanising the talent in Advertising and driving positive change.”

“Right from the start of my career my goal was to work in advertising. I’ve always been keen to take on different roles and to learn all areas of the business. That’s always going to be the way I operate; I love a challenge and just dive in headfirst.”

Championing the relevancy of print media in the current environment are at the top of Maguire’s list.

“Newspapers remain hyper relevant. The newspaper remains the commanding voice of the whole media landscape. That’s how I’ve always viewed it. Across the Monday-Sunday week, our print newspapers are read 2.7 million times. Readership numbers like these are compelling evidence that our products are cutting edge, relevant, trusted and constantly growing.”

PerthNow & Regional Advertising Director, Marnie McKeown, said: “I’m very excited to be working with Paul in his new role. As someone who’s been part of the SWM family for many years and has been instrumental in the production and development of our papers, he’s the perfect fit for the role. I’m looking forward to working closely with Paul as we continue to work with our clients on implementing their campaigns and needs across all our platforms.”

Working closely with digital to drive integrated, comprehensive media solutions for customers is also high on Maguire’s agenda.

“I want to help galvanise that we are the number one destination for clients who want a complete media strategy, and that we deliver on every single platform through our print, digital and broadcast offerings.”

Digital Advertising Director, Dennie Chung, said: “It’s been amazing that we have been able to promote from within. We are lucky to have such incredible talent under our roof and I look forward to working alongside Paul to develop innovative initiatives to drive our business forward and create positive results for our clients.”

Seven West Media WA are poised to announce another exciting addition to the Advertising team over the coming weeks.
