Nova finishes 2022 on top in GFK Radio Survey 8: Mix 94.5 & 96FM maintain 2nd and 3rd positions

Nova finishes 2022 with another stellar performance in the 8th GFK Radio Survey dominating the Perth radio market. Stela Media’s Marianne Stelmach, who has over two decades of radio industry experience, takes a closer look at the results of the last ratings period of 2022.

 

#1 Overall – Nova
#1 Breakfast – Nova’s Nathan, Nat & Shaun
#1 Drive – Nova’s Kate, Tim & Joel

Nova is #1 seven surveys in a row with a share of 17.9%. Outstanding results with the #1 Breakfast Show with a record result of 20.8% share, #1 Mornings, #1 Afternoons, #1 Drive and #1 Weekends. They are also #1 in all shares from 10 to 54 year olds and the biggest cume of 709,000 listeners. They have really widened the gap between themselves and the rest of the stations across the year after finishing a lot closer to Mix 94.5 and 96FM same time last year.

Mix 94.5 have maintained #2 position even after an overall share decrease of 1.1%. They are #2 with People 10-17 and 18-24. Mix 94.5 still have a strong share of 547,000 listeners.

96FM are holding #3 position and are only 0.1% away from #2. They are #2 with People 40-54 and stand out #1 with People 55 to 64. Mornings are back to #2 and Weekends are maintained at #2. 96FM have the 3rd biggest cume with 482,000 listeners.

6PR have maintained their #4 overall position and will be really happy with the new Breakfast Show hosted by Millsy & Karl now being the #2 Breakfast Show. The biggest increase across the board was with Tod Johnson’s Evening show moving to #1 after a whopping 6% increase. 6PR has also maintained their #1 position with People 65+.

92.9 Triple M have moved back to #5 position. They’ve had strong growth and have moved to #2 position with People 25 to 39. They also had a good increase with People 40 to 54 and are now #3. The 92.9 Triple M Breakfast Show hade a much needed 1% increase and positive signs on weekends moving from #6 to #4.

6IX had a slight decrease overall but had a good increase with People 55 to 64 and have maintained the #2 position in their core demographic. They are also #2 for People 65+.

Cume Audience
What a way to finish the year off for Nova. A 36,000 increase of listenership has taken them to a cume audience of 709,000! There were no other increases with the other stations.

Perth DAB+ Stations
Smooth FM Perth has maintained the #1 DAB+ station after their third survey. Kate Mac’s Show is also the #1 Breakfast Show. 96FM 80’s had a good increase and have finished strong as the #2 digital station. The biggest increase overall was with MMM 90’s of 9,000 listeners.

Survey 8, 2022 was conducted by GFK for Commercial Radio Australia from 25th September to 3rd December 2022. This period included two weeks school holidays from Saturday 24th September 2022.
