Initiative, Val Morgan and JCDecaux join forces for a special screening of The Last Daughter at Luna Cinemas Leederville.

The event was held a couple of weeks after the official NAIDOC week to alleviate pressure on the Indigenous community during busy periods. The event aimed to celebrate and honour the rich history, culture, and achievements of Indigenous people.

NAIDOC, which stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, is a time for all Australians to reflect on the rich heritage and resilience of the First Nations peoples. It is an opportunity to engage with their stories, learn from their wisdom, and strive towards a future that embraces and respects the diversity and strength of Indigenous communities.

It was a night of high emotion, evocative content and sparked conversations on Thursday. It was an extremely moving film & made a huge impact on all who attended. For 90 minutes guests were taken on the journey of Brenda Mathews life as she searched for her identity and her mission to bridge the gap between her two families and her Aboriginal heritage. The lessons learnt through the story have already sparked conversations that will continue to disperse thoughts and engagement amongst the community.

The Last Daughter is a powerful exploration of identity, culture, and reconciliation, offering a unique insight into Indigenous experiences.

Enjoying delicious indigenous canapes from local providore “All Good Grub”, courtesy of JCDecaux, guests were then treated to a fantastic and thought-provoking Acknowledgement of Country by Mediabrands RAP Committee lead, Emily Whyte.

“We’re so proud to have been able to bring such an important and meaningful story to the big screen, to deepen our understanding and respect of indigenous culture and celebrate our RAP commitment with our industry friends. We can’t wait to stage this again next year!” said the organisers Lauren De Rozario (JCDecaux), Megan Camp (Val Morgan) and Emily Whyte (Initiative).
