Independent Western Australian media outlet Perth Is OK! surpasses 1 million pageviews per month for the first time

After a year like no other that saw the Australian media landscape work through incredibly turbulent times, a small, independently-run cultural website in Perth, Western Australia has bucked the trend, kicking the year off by setting new readership records within 2021’s first month.

Since launching the Perth Is OK! website in mid-2018 it has seen rapidly expanding readership numbers that have surpassed a new milestone in January: 1 million visitors per month.

Perth is OK! founders and proud locals Luke Whelan and Blake Kelleway launched Perth Is OK! on Instagram in 2014 as a tongue-in-cheek response to the city’s persistent ‘dullsville’ tag, offering an organic and community-driven response thanks to user submissions to the hashtag #perthisok.

In the ensuing years the Instagram page has rapidly grown into one of the most prominent digital voices in the State, becoming an authoritative figure on all things to see, do, go, eat, and drink around Western Australia.

In June of 2018 they turned their attention (and an in-built audience in the hundreds of thousands) towards building perthisok.com, with an eye towards becoming the ultimate local’s guide to Perth and Western Australia for residents and visitors alike.

Since then the website has built an equally fervent and loyal following, offering an honest and well-researched guide showcasing all that is Perth and WA, with an eye towards supporting small business along the way.

And if the first month of 2021 is anything to go by, that audience is well on the way towards continued growth throughout the year and beyond, ticking over 1million pageviews in the month of January.

Not coincidentally, the hashtag #perthisok is rapidly marching towards the 4 million mark to go with 383,000 followers on Instagram (@perthisok and @perthisok.local) and 142,000 on Facebook, accounting for a total of over 18 million monthly impressions.

It marks the beginning of the biggest year in Perth Is OK!’s brief history to date, as it sets out to become the largest independently run media outlet in Western Australia.
