Independent media outlet Perth is OK! Reaches 1,000,000 followers on social media

Perth is OK!, the independent media outlet that celebrates all that’s good in Western Australia, is delighted to announce that it has reached the major milestone of 1,000,000 followers on social media.

Founded in 2014 by Blake Kelleway and Luke Whelan, Perth is OK! has quickly grown from a standalone Instagram account to a prominent and important voice in the Western Australian media landscape.

Over the years, the company has carved out a strong niche in the market, taking a social media-heavy and positive approach to covering local news, all while picking up a bunch of highly engaged followers along the way.

The company now boasts over 605,000 followers on Instagram, 260,000 on Facebook, 111,000 on TikTok and 27,000 followers on LinkedIn. Over 75% of their followers are based in Western Australia, reinforcing the mission set by the team to create quality media about the region and to be a source of local pride.

“I think a lot of our success on social media can be attributed to the fact that we’re coming from a genuine place of interest and love for Western Australia. All of our staff live and work in Perth, and our goal is to create and curate content that our friends and families will find interesting and useful, not just what we think will generate the most engagement on any given day,” says Kelleway.

“After doing this consistently for eight years now, it feels like we’ve developed a real sense of trust from our followers, which is something we will never take for granted.”

Additionally, #perthisok has become the unofficial tourism hashtag of Perth, with just under 5 million posts on Instagram alone, featuring user-generated content from locals and tourists sharing the best places to eat, visit and stay all over WA. Even incorrect spellings of their hashtag like #perthisokay have recorded 500,000+ posts.

“For years prior to joining the Perth is OK! team, the platform became my main source to discover just how much there is to see and do in Western Australia,” says Social Media Director, Ebony Lane. “It has been incredibly rewarding to use my local knowledge and passion for the city we live in to inspire our growing network of followers to get out and appreciate the vibrant dining scene, cultural experiences, and natural wonders right on our doorstep.”

Whelan added: “We’re all in on WA and we’re all in on social. We believe it’s our responsibility to support and promote this state that has done so much for us along with the people and businesses within it – and we encourage the people and businesses of WA to do the same.”

It continues Perth is OK!’s strong start to the year, exceeding 516,000 unique users on the website over the month of January, along with securing annual campaigns for major hospitality group Australian Venue Co. and one of Perth’s most iconic placemaking destinations, Brookfield Place. As well as multidimensions campaigns for iconic Australian brands such as HBF, Crust Pizza and Summit Homes.
