Flashback to ’96: The PADC looks back

The Perth Advertising and Design Club has posted a rare treat from the archives – an original copy of the Beta tape played at the 1996 PADC Awards show (then the Perth Art Directors’ Club). For those too young to remember the bad old days before Keynote or Powerpoint, this tape would play in the background during the show while the host presented over the top of it.

The host for the award night was one of Australia’s most well known talents at the time – Tim Ferguson – ex Doug Anthony Allstar member and star of one of the highest rating evening shows of the year Don’t Forget your Toothbrush.

As the Club notes in the description, there’s plenty to discover in the archives. The West Australian Fellowship Award was awarded to the West Coast Eagles work ‘IQ Test for Prospective Members’ (pictured below), but there’s plenty of classic TV work including the Masters Iced Coffee ‘Rejects’ and The Office of Energy ‘Electricity Kills’.

The Club has posted the video on their YouTube page, but is encouraging those recognise their work (or their agency’s work), to ‘comment with credits, shout outs and commiserations’ on the Club’s Facebook page.

Take a trip down memory lane today!
