City of Vincent Film Project applications now open for 2022

The Revelation Perth International Film Festival continues its sixth commissioning collaboration with the City of Vincent via the City of Vincent Film Project; providing $7,000 to three local filmmakers to produce a non-fiction short (10-min or less) shining a light on stories from within the municipality.

The only project of its kind in Australia, “the City of Vincent Film Project gives emerging filmmakers the chance to realise their dreams and break into the screen industry,” says Mayor Emma Cole.

“The beauty of this project is that it not only unearths local talent, it also uncovers incredible stories from within our community. Each year, the filmmakers inspire us with their passion and creativity as they bring these authentic local stories to life,” Cole continues.

Previous years have seen shorts about neighbourhood letterboxes, a beekeeper, orphaned animals, women’s AFL, indigenous stories of Noongar families who grew up in the region, a love letter to community radio and a celebration of the well-loved institution that is the ReStore Leederville.

Films born from this initiative – like Pacing the Pool (2021) – have screened at hundreds of national and global festivals, spotlighting the City’s stories to international audiences and wining international accolades.

The successful filmmakers are mentored through the process from start to finish; with this unique collaboration providing the opportunity to learn all aspects of producing a film. This includes the technical requirements, storytelling fundamentals, post-production techniques and marketing and communication strategies.

Applications open from 21 September 2022 and can be made via the City of Vincent website at www.vincent.wa.gov.au/filmproject. Applications close 17 November 2022 with the finalists announced on 13 December 2022.

The successful films will screen at a special gala during the annual Revelation Perth International Film Festival in July.

Revelation is supported by the Australian and West Australian governments through Screenwest, Lotterywest, Screen Australia and the City of Vincent.
