City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder launches ‘Kalgoorlie Bold’ campaign to recruit more residents and tackle looming skills shortage

Kalgoorlie-Boulder, one of Western Australia’s oldest and most historic cities, has launched a major campaign to change perceptions and encourage WA families and young professionals to move inland.


The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder says it’s not what most people think, and is making its pitch on the back of a jobs boom and some of the most affordable housing in the state.

“People don’t realize that Kalgoorlie has thousands of jobs up for grabs, really well-paid jobs, and an average house price of $320,000 – that’s 40% less than Perth and 265% less than Sydney – and we’ve got several new estates under development,” said City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder CEO John Walker.

“30,000 people call our city home. We have a huge choice in education from kindy through to university, including 12 schools. There’s over a dozen medical practices, a world class hospital, 20 beauty salons, a Kmart and two McDonalds’. Kalgoorlie is just so much more than what people think or have thought before.”

In a bid to address the looming skills shortage in the now booming Goldfields city, the ‘Kalgoorlie Bold’ campaign will target families and young professionals, offering a lifestyle it says can’t be beaten.

Voiced by well-known actor Peter Rowsthorn, the Kalgoorlie Bold campaign and accompanying website leaves users in no doubt about the bounty of the city’s offering – from eating out to childcare, sport and fitness.

“In Kalgoorlie, it’s go bold or go home” said Rowsthorn. “This place is pretty, it’s gritty; it’s everything anywhere else in WA isn’t. “Why live boring? Bold’s way more fun!”.

The Kalgoorlie Bold campaign will be broadcast on major networks in Western Australia and through social media nationwide.
