Since 2015, greyhound racing in WA has killed more than 1,400 healthy dogs including six more in the last few weeks alone. The latest victim of this outdated, inhumane, and unsustainable sport (can it really be called that) was a young female. Part of a litter of four that were being trialled so they could be approved to race by stewards, she suffered a broken leg and was euthanised on the spot. Her three littermates went home without their sister who was most likely left in the freezer at the track.

Free The Hounds is a Perth based non-for-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers.

Their purpose is to stop the inhumane treatment of greyhounds by educating the public, providing transparency about the racing industry, lobbying the government, keeping regulatory bodies accountable, promoting greyhounds as companions not commodities and advocating for welfare reforms.

Their aim is to end greyhound racing in WA.

AT Creative Director, Andrew Tinning, said: “As a passionate dog lover and owner, it’s been a pleasure to join Debra Neve in supporting Free the Hounds President Melissa Harrison on her quest to end this barbaric practice. I meet many rescue greyhounds on my walks with my own pooch Ned, and these beautiful, gentle creatures deserve to be protected.”

“Please do your bit by signing the petition at freethehounds.com.au and if you have a puppy waiting at home, make sure you give them lots of pats and cuddles and remember how lucky you are to have each other.”

The campaign launched this week on social media with outdoor to follow.
