The West Australian grows readership in latest emma survey and reaches 84% of WA
The latest emmaCMV readership survey reveals The West Australian (M-F) has grown metropolitan readership by 4.5 per cent year-on-year which is an additional 15,000 readers, taking the print readership to 417,000 daily readers (M-F).
The West Australian’s growth has come on the back of a 10 per cent year-on-year rise in readers aged 14-29. The West Australian (M-F) recorded the highest market reach of any metro daily newspaper in the nation, with more than one-in-five West Australians reading each weekday. The West Australian now attracts more readers than The Financial Review (nationally), The Age, The Adelaide Advertiser, and The Courier Mail.
Seven West Media WA print and digital platforms now reach 84% of the WA population with the highest market reach of any major cross-platform masthead.
The West Australian has seen a transformation over the last 18 months led by Walkley Award winning Editor in Chief Anthony De Ceglie. De Ceglie now oversees Seven West Media’s portfolio of 34 print mastheads and 2 online news sites including The West Australian, Thewest.com.au, PerthNow, The Sunday Times, Community News and West Regional Newspapers.
Community News recently migrated over to PerthNow as a new vertical which has also experienced growth with over 1 million people consuming Community News content across print & digital platforms in March.
Seven West Media WA, Chief Advertising Offer for Print and Digital Nathan Cave said “The latest emma figures have been confirmation that the people of Western Australia have a strong desire for print at a metro, community and regional level. With the integration of Community News titles into the broader Seven West Media group now complete we have an offering of both digital and print at a hyper local, metro and state level to suit a diverse range of client requirements.”

This is story to media buyers. Right? Print and digital platforms reach 84% of West Australian population. Daily, weekly, or monthly. This is a very naïve communication and does nothing for the credibility of emmaCMV and in addition The West Australian.
Someone please provide an accurate interpretation and analysis of the survey from a professional media buying perspective.
