VML takes home 6 PADC Gold Skulls: Brendan Morrow named Emerging Talent of the Year and Tim Newton named Art Director of the Year and overall PADC Diamond Skull winner
VML had a night out to remember at Friday night’s annual PADC Awards. In addition to collecting 6 Gold Skulls on the night, copywriter Brendan Morrow was named Emerging Talent of the Year in the Diamond Skull awards and VML Perth’s Creative Lead, Tim Newton was named the Art Director of the Year and overall Diamond Skull winner.
Paula Keamy, Creative Lead, said: “The whole agency is buzzing today. Especially because our wins were from all departments, plus everyone’s extra thrilled for Tim and Brendan.”
Their top performing campaign was KitKat ‘Snap Decisions’ which picked up 3 Gold Skulls.
On ‘Snap Decisions’, Newton told Campaign Brief: “Seeing Kit Kat ‘Snap Decisions’ develop from a beautifully singular thought into a full blown social media and influencer campaign was an awesome experience, but seeing that experience recognised at the PADC Awards was beyond awesome. For all the people who threw themselves at it with such a positive vibe, I’m both grateful and proud.”
VML’s other Gold Skull winners were ‘HER Board’ for Luma and ‘Echoes of Van Gogh’ for West Australian Ballet.
Keamy added: “Luma’s HER Board was a special project from the start, and now it’s one of our biggest winners with 5 x PADCs. It was a 12-month, all agency effort. Design, Creative, CX/UX, Tech, Production. But extra special thanks to Director Melle Branson and the crew – who were 95% women, voice over Portia Rose, Cue Sound and photographer Natasja Kremers.”
“HER Board’s a world first that asks people to sponsor women experiencing domestic violence. So if you can, join HER Board so she can leave at herboard.org.au.”
Full results from the action packed PADC Awards will be announced soon.

Such a great result and deserved recognition for Tim and Brendan in particular. Also great to see national work executed and recognised here in Perth. Onwards!
35 years ago – for my sins, I was President of the PADC when the club inaugurated the PADC Awards.
I wrote then as part of the address that I had to give, “… the PADC Awards are unapologetically dedicated to identifying, setting and raising the standards of advertising and design work,” and that the awards signified that “Perth advertising is growing up.”
Without denigrating any of the Award winners over the years since, it is evident to me that based on the 2024 Awards, that both sentiments have been realised.
The standard has never been higher, and indeed, Perth advertising and design have indeed, grown up.
Well done. Congratulations all involved.
