The Experts Podcast: One month on Chris Bendall reflects on the end of The Project
It has been just one month since the last episode of The Project went to air. Episode 4504 of The Project aired on June 27, 2025, and it was the last after running for sixteen years.
Now that the dust has settled The Experts podcast hosted by Media Stable’s Nic Hayes sat down for a chat with the former Channel Ten Executive Producer of The Project Chris Bendall.
What happened in the end? Was it a surprise that The Project finished so quickly? What made this show like no other?
Chris is a media professional and a natural storyteller. He shares with Nic some of the special moments behind the scenes that you do not get to see on TV. The family-like connection with Waleed Aly, Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson, and the absolute joy each Tuesday was for Chris when Kate Langbroek joined the desk.
During the podcast Chris gets a get a chance to look back at the best of times, the worst of times, the moments that generated great interest and the stories that made a great difference to so many. They cover the death threats and the extra security required for Waleed at times and Nic asks the question if Lisa Wilkinson had her time again would she have gone down the same path when it came to the Bruce Lehrmann?
The impact, the connection with audience, the digital assets, the very art of ‘delivering news differently’. There is no denying that the show tackled some of the big topics like terrorism, bullying, dairy farmers, marriage equality, and the environment.
Chris Bendall is a realist and states that there will never be a show like it but still holds hope for another role in TV. He loves the medium and the differences that a platform like TV can make.
