Tara Rae Moss to headline UN Women Australia’s International Women’s Day event in Perth, 2026

UN Women Australia has announced that Tara Rae Moss – internationally bestselling author, award-winning advocate, keynote speaker, and holistic practitioner – will headline the International Women’s Day event in Perth on 4 March 2026.

Under the theme ‘Balance the Scales’, the 2026 events arrive at a critical moment. In NSW alone, conviction rates for sexual assault cases sit at just 7 per cent, and across Australia, the justice system routinely fails to protect the most vulnerable. Meanwhile, globally, 3.9 billion women and girls live in countries with at least one law restricting their economic opportunities and access to justice.

Tara Rae Moss is an internationally bestselling author of 15 books of fiction and non-fiction, an award-winning advocate, keynote speaker; and holistic practitioner. Since 1999 she has written 14 bestselling books, published in 19 countries and 13 languages, including advocacy handbook for women and girls Speaking Out, her #1 non-fiction bestselling memoir The Fictional Woman, and the internationally bestselling postwar historical crime novels The War Widow and The Ghosts of Paris featuring feminist PI Billie Walker and her disabled war vet assistant Samuel Baker. Her fifteenth book is #1 Amazon bestseller The Italian Secret.

Tara Rae’s passion lies with helping others and fuelling positive change. She is an outspoken advocate for human rights and the rights of women, children, people living with pain and people with disabilities, and this focus informs all of her work. She has been a UNICEF Australia Goodwill Ambassador since 2007 and in 2014 she was recognised for Outstanding Advocacy for her blog Manus Island: An insider’s report, which helped to break information to the public about the alleged murder of Reza Barati inside the Australian-run Manus Island Immigration Detention Centre. In 2018 she was named one of the Global Top 50 Diversity Figures in Public Life, along with Angelina Jolie, His Holiness The Dalai Lama and more.

Simone Clarke, CEO of UN Women Australia, said: ” At a time when justice remains out of reach for too many women and girls, we are proud to bring Tara Rae Moss – an extraordinary advocate, storyteller and healer – to the Perth stage for International Women’s Day. Her work harnesses the power of lived experience and hope, showing what is possible when courage meets opportunity and advocacy.”

“This year’s events are a rallying cry for justice for all women and girls. When legal systems fail women, when survivors are sued for speaking out, when conviction rates remain shamefully low, we have to ask ourselves: how many more women? How many more until we act? It’s time to Balance the Scales.”

UN Women Australia’s IWD events are among the largest in Australia and provide a vital opportunity to raise funds to support and empower women and girls. The national IWD speaker line-up joins the ranks of previous speakers including Dr Jane Goodall, Mellody Hobson and Celeste Barber, among others.

Tickets for the 4 March 2026 events are now available at iwd.net.au.
