Did Michael Cera really found CeraVe? Super Bowl Ad Debunks U.S. actor’s claims
After weeks of rumours and speculations about whether U.S. actor Michael Cera (Barbie, Superbad, Arrested Development) developed the globally renowned skincare brand CeraVe, the brand’s Super Bowl ad, which aired in Australia yesterday has revealed it was all a prank.
Inspired by a shared namesake, CeraVe joined forces with Cera to launch Michael CeraVe – a first-of-its-kind curated 360 campaign that included a star-studded roster of social media influencers, dermatologists and more, leading into the brand’s first-ever Super Bowl TV commercial. This included some of Australia’s own content creators, Maddy MacRae, Emily Grosser, Mackenzie Macintye and Michael Brunelli.
The campaign was created to reinforce CeraVe as a leading dermatologist-recommended skincare brand and massify dermatologic education about the importance of “moisturising like a derm”.
After going toe-to-toe with dermatologists and even revealing his very own Michael CeraVe commercial, Cera’s bizarre campaign is debunked by a boardroom full of CeraVe dermatologists who remind him that CeraVe is in fact developed with dermatologists and “Cera” refers to “ceramides” not Michael Cera.
