St John WA launches ‘Here to Help’ campaign to highlight lifesaving support across WA

Riding a mountain bike or racing a lawnmower, wrestling South Sudanese-style or wielding a medieval shield, there’s help at hand whatever might happen. That’s the message from St John WA’s new campaign and brand platform, Here to Help.

 

Creative Directors Tom Birts and Tim Newton said: “We wanted to explore how people are making the most of WA with support from St John. Thanks to Mellen, Duncan and Sam we found out they are racing lawnmowers and swinging broadswords. Shout out the Kingdom of Grand Athera.”

St John tasked Perth’s Clockwork Films with adding production rigor to the documentary-style approach, pairing unique communities and activities with photographers. Producer Jake Coombes said: “When this came up, we jumped on it. Allowing the photographers creative freedom generated some magnificent moments — if only every project could be like this.”

Shoot locations included Margaret River, Balingup, Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie and Pinjarra, with Perth Metro creative on its way. The campaign marks the launch of a new brand platform for St John and includes social video and radio components. It follows activations in Yagan Square, at Fremantle’s Esplanade Skatepark and on the Scarborough running trail.


Photographer Duncan Wright said: “It’s rare to have a creative team deliver such an open brief. It gave me an opportunity to delve into what I love.

“Small, volunteer run communities speak to the identity of Western Australia and it’s clear the trust they have in St John is what allowed us to make such memorable work.”

St John WA Brand Manager Tim Vandenbulcke added: “We have GPs, dentists and urgent care centres, as well as first aid training and, of course, our state ambulance service. We’re on standby at stadium gigs and local festivals. Over 50,000 people have downloaded our First Responder app, adding to a network of help that includes 12,000 public defibrillators.

“Our services support West Australians to make the most of life knowing help is there if they need it, and our new brand expression is a reflection of that.”
