North Metro TAFE lecturer embeds with Anthologie to strengthen industry connections

The WA State Government’s College Lecturer Industry Placement (CLIP) Program launched in January 2022 following a $9.9 million investment announced in the 2021–22 State Budget, continues to deliver on its promise to strengthen links between TAFE and industry. In May 2024, the program was confirmed as a permanent initiative beyond 2025, ensuring ongoing opportunities for lecturers to refresh their skills and bring current industry knowledge back into the classroom.

As part of this program, North Metro TAFE lecturer Brendan Hibbert recently completed a five-day placement at Anthologie. Hibbert described the experience as “energising and deeply rewarding,” noting that the placement was designed to enhance student training at North Metro TAFE by integrating fresh industry insights into the curriculum.

“Anthologie was a natural choice,” said Hibbert. “Their commitment to meaningful design and strategic thinking aligns perfectly with the future-focused skills we want our students to develop. It was also a full-circle moment, as both Ben Hagley (Class of 2007) and Taylor Evans (Class of 2013) are alumni of our Graphic Design program.”

During the placement, Hibbert collaborated on live projects, explored the agency’s approach to digital innovation, participated in strategic presentation workshops, and discussed the role of AI in creative workflows. The week also provided an opportunity to develop a structured work experience program, building on the success of Kerly Aavik’s standout internship at Anthologie last year.

Adding to the excitement, Anthologie celebrated multiple Australian Gold Good Design Award wins during the placement, further highlighting the calibre of creative innovation within their studio. Anthologie has generously contributed to the North Metro TAFE Graphic Design program by sharing insights into the rapidly evolving creative process. These learnings will now be integrated into TAFE training programs and enrich the next generation of Perth’s creative workforce.

The CLIP program benefits students, lecturers, and industry alike. More placements are available at no cost to industry for up to ten days. Agencies interested in hosting Graphic Design lecturers can contact: graphic.design@nmtafe.wa.edu.au.

Embedding with Anthologie last week on the back of their incredible win at the Australian Good Design Awards, North Metro TAFE Art & Design lecturer Brendan Hibbert has just completed a five day return to industry placement.
