Myles Pollard dispenses communication wisdom in new episode of State of Social’s MVP podcast

Australian actor Myles Pollard is the latest in a string of experts to share insights on The Marketer’s Most Valuable Perspective podcast, a collaboration between Dear Storyteller and State of Social.

As an accomplished communicator and teacher, Pollard’s (pictured right) resume features major acting roles on McLeod’s Daughters, Home and Away, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, alongside his experience as a director and producer. Following his State of Social workshop, Pollard’s conversation with host Mike Drysdale (pictured left) draws fascinating parallels between the marketing and acting disciplines as he highlights the power of getting comfortable with discomfort.

“What I’m trying to help marketers with, is the idea that it’s okay to be uncomfortable,” said Pollard. “Fallibility is human; if you don’t care that you made a mistake, no one else will. People can relate to it because it reminds them of their own humanness.”

Their chat also covers how a negative reaction to a mistake can hold back effective communication – a point Pollard brings home with a story about his experience auditioning for a Lord of the Rings film. Drysdale’s quickfire questions close out the episode, uncovering further fascinating insights; Myles’s admiration for Barack Obama’s public speaking, the path he forged within the communications space, and his love of the classic Swatch, to name a few.

Following this release, upcoming episodes of the limited series podcast will feature Storyation’s Andrés López-Varela, Reddit’s David Ray, and State of Social founder Meg Coffey. Previous episodes have included conversations with Thinkerbell’s Adam Ferrier, Urban List’s Susannah George, Next Door Australia’s Jennie Sager, and Dr Holly Ludeman.
