Matt Wilson and Luke Williams exit Wunderman Thompson to launch agency, Significant Other

The Perth industry’s worst kept secret is out with senior creative team Matt Wilson and Luke Williams leaving Wunderman Thompson on Friday. Perth’s most awarded creative team are launching their own agency – Significant Other.

 

Wilson teamed up with Williams when he joined Meerkats in the Associate Creative Director role at the end of 2019 prior to the agency’s takeover by Wunderman Thompson. Wilson moved to Meerkats after an outstanding 18 months at The Brand Agency where he created the highly awarded ‘Hungry Puffs’ campaign for WA Foodbank.

‘Hungry Puffs’ picked up at every major award show entered including One Show, New York Festivals, a string of gold at AdFest, a coveted Yellow Pencil at D&AD and a Silver and two Bronze Lions at Cannes.

Art director based Williams has worked at Wunderman Thompson/Meerkats for 5 years, since joining from Bonfire.

Over the past two years Wilson and Williams have been the shining light in the local creative industry and recently completely dominated the stage at the PADC Awards.

The duo picked up Best of Show and 2 Gold awards for Anglicare WA’s Winter Appeal ‘The Cold Campaign’ and Williams’ ‘Light & Shadow’ for WA Ballet also picked up a Gold. Their excellent ‘Dracula comes to Crown’ radio campaign for WA Ballet scored Silver.

Wilson and Williams will launch their agency early January.

In other creative news out of Wunderman Thompson Perth, Campaign Brief hears Executive Creative Director Joe Hawkins is transferring to the Sydney office next year. Hawkins has been heavily involved in several large campaigns for WT Sydney over the past 6 months and will relocate in the first half of 2022.
