Major milestones for Perth is OK! with launch of daily newsletter and over 100,000 subscribers

Western Australia’s top independent media outlet, Perth is OK!, is celebrating two major milestones: the launch of its daily newsletter, and surpassing 100,000 subscribers. With the majority of its readership based in Perth’s metro area, the newsletter is a welcome local resource that brings the best of WA straight to inboxes.

In addition to delivering fresh, locally focused news stories, the newsletter also addresses the rising cost of living in WA by offering daily meal deals and free event recommendations.

“We’ve launched the Perth is OK! daily newsletter – think of it as our version of the morning paper,” says Blake Kelleway, Co-Founder of Perth is OK! in a recent LinkedIn post. “Each edition brings the newest stories from all our usual content pillars, along with the day’s local (non-fear mongering) news straight to your inbox.”

With a 41.27% open rate, Perth is OK!’s Monday to Friday daily newsletter is a high-engagement platform for WA readers who rely on it for unique, optimistic, and actionable local stories. Kelleway said in the past 30 days alone, the newsletter delivered over 2 millions emails, with more than 821,700 opened emails, 52,664 unique clicks, and a click-through rate of 4.41%.

Perth is OK! Editor-in-Chief, Troy Mutton, said: “Our audience being able to trust that we’re real people, who live in Perth and WA and experience what’s happening around town on a daily basis, is the cornerstone of this entire publication. And the newsletter is a way of being a part of our community’s morning routine with some fun, informative, easily-digestible local news bits that you don’t need to wade through a sea of A.I. slop, negativity and clickbait to find. Along the way we can sling out a few last minute recommendations, and continue to support small businesses by pointing our audience directly towards them in an informal, easy-going fashion. It’s been great to see the positive response to it so far, and we’re excited to see where we can take it in 2025 and beyond.”

Adding to the newsletter’s value, Luke Whelan, Co-Founder and Business Director, said: “The daily newsletter unlocks a range of new advertising options & placements for advertisers, not reliant on the fickle social network and search algorithms, while connecting with new audience segments. We’re excited to continue to expand and role out these opportunities for clients in 2025.”

Kelleway added: “Direct-to-audience tools like our newsletter are essential in today’s media landscape, allowing us to connect with our most loyal followers without depending on the constantly changing wave of social media algorithms. The inbox is a more intimate space, with fewer distractions and less friction between our content and our readers. Unlike traditional media like TV or radio, where viewers and listeners might be multitasking, a newsletter reaches subscribers in a setting where they’re more focused, with minimal noise. We don’t have to compete with other content in a feed or adjust our message to fit the latest algorithm update, we simply deliver engaging, relevant, time-sensitive stories directly to our readers, all of whom have opted in to hear from us. It’s a platform that, while old fashioned, is one we’re incredibly excited about, and we’ll be dedicating a bunch of time and energy to it in the coming months.”
