Free the Hounds highlights the reality of the ‘unsustainable sport’ of greyhound racing

Free the Hounds (FTH), a volunteer-run not-for-profit greyhound advocacy group in Western Australia, is calling for an end to greyhound racing in the state and has released a hard hitting radio campaign to raise awareness.
Mel Harrison, President of Free the Hounds, says: “Racing and Wagering WA (the Government owned business controlling racing) has continually put the welfare of greyhounds after the small profit made on the gambling tax revenue.”
“Track upgrades that RWWA have been aware need doing urgently, since at least 2021, have still not been implemented while an increase in the number of greyhounds being hurt and killed due to on-track injuries is being witnessed. FTH feels it’s time to phase out this outdated, inhumane and unsustainable “sport”.” said Harrison.

Free the Hounds are absolute legends. It’s embarrassing that Australia still participates in this hideous, cruel ‘sport’ that contributes nothing to society, but strips humans of their humanity by their harsh treatment of gentle, quirky greyhounds, and denies this breed their place as loving pets and companions.
Free the hounds do a greyt job. The [lack of] welfare of greyhounds needs to be addressed ASAP. It is cruel to let another being suffer the way the greyhounds do. Such an outdated sport.

Amazing work for such a worthy cause. If other breeds of dog were treated the way greyhounds are there would be public outcry. Greyhounds are as much loving pets as Labradors or Golden Retrievers.

About time that this awful cruel practice was outdated. No entertainment is worth the torture and death of living creatures.
I’m fully behind FTH and their goal of ending greyhound racing in WA. It’s a disgraceful practice – it’s not sport, it’s not family entertainment, it’s just cruel. If 40 states in the US can ban it and phase the closing down of racetracks, so can we in WA! It’s time for our elected representatives to listen to the people and set the bar for the rest of Australia to follow.
Thank heavens for Free the Hounds and other organisations highlighting this horrid industry some call a “sport”. It’s fantastic to see more exposure to show how Greyhounds are treated. I think of it as legalised animal cruelty. It’s a horrible & cruel industry no matter which way you look at it.
