ex-advertising creative Alun Bartsch launches his solo ‘Backstories’ exhibition

For those who can recall, Alun Bartsch had a long career as an advertising writer and CD in Perth, London, Melbourne and eventually back in Perth.

He then moved into the film and television business with his wife’s successful production company, MagoFilms. It was here that as a Writer and Set and Location Photographer, his passions could be incorporated.

In his time in advertising, working at agencies including Masius, Mojo, Burton Wisgard Doxat, DDB and finally BCY, Bartsch was the recipient of numerous awards and worked as a team for many years with Senior Art Director Sam Passante, who saddled-up again with Bartsch to create some of the promotional pieces for this show.

This month Bartsch’s solo exhibition, Backstories, opens.

Backstories is as much about the written word as it is about the images.

Primarily a retrospective of a decade of street observations and street portraits, the individual backstories are written on each print.

In addition, there were also fifteen people who were chosen specifically because of their backstories. These were shot in a studio setting. And like the street, created with available light.

70 black and white images in total, as wide a pallet of backstories as there are subjects.

And you’re invited. Come along. (old-school call-to-action)
