Channel Nine Perth to launch 5pm News bulletin fronted by Monika Kos
Monika Kos, is joining 9News to front a new live and local one-hour bulletin at 5.00pm, commencing next Monday, December 7.
A familiar face with Perth viewers for more than three decades, having previously hosted Today Tonight and Ten News, Kos brings a wealth of experience and credibility to Nine’s weeknight news offering.
“It’s a privilege to join the team at Nine and I’m humbled to have this opportunity to once again bring viewers the news that matters to them, in what has been an extraordinary year for all of us,” Kos said.
9News at 5.00 will focus on the important stories of the day, developing news with insight as well as lifestyle, entertainment, sport and weather. Kos will then hand over to Michael Thomson with the full story on the network’s 9News at 6.00 bulletin.
Thomson said: “I’ve known Monika for many years and I’m thrilled she is joining us – she will be a great asset to Nine. She knows Perth and Perth knows her. I’m looking forward to working with her.”
Nine Perth Director of News, Michael Best, says the new bulletin is another example of Nine’s commitment to bringing viewers the most comprehensive news coverage from a top team of journalists.
“We will now be the only commercial network in Perth to have two hours of live, local, rolling news coverage each weeknight, first at 5pm with Monika and then at 6pm with Thommo,” Best said. “It means the people of Perth will be better informed about the latest news as it happens, from the moment they get home.

Great to hear that we will be returning to a West Coast based 5.00pm news time slot! I was very disappointed when Channel 10 decided to axe their local news desks in favour of centralizing news to the East Coast – c’mon, there’s a three-hour time difference in summer! Thanks Channel 9.
Thank heavens Monika is back on tv, her time on 6PR, especially with the sports boys was just painful.
Thank god she is back on our screens. I was disappointed with channel 10 and losing monika & Michael schultz! I can’t stand to watch it anymore… thank you channel 9 for keeping it local and for starting at 5pm
