Nine Perth has unveiled its 60 Years, Channel 9 Perth Exhibition at the WA Museum Boola Bardip, where visitors can take a trip down memory lane with a look back at the station’s technology, legendary programs, nostalgic show tunes and beloved faces from 1965 till today.

Situated near the WA Museum’s Reflections Gallery and next to the upcoming Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor exhibition, this is the first time Channel Nine has shared this rich history for everyone to enjoy.

The exhibition includes an array of information pictures, audio and video, together with vintage items and equipment, including one of Channel 9 Perth’s first studio cameras, and a Steenbeck flatbed editing suite used for splicing tape for broadcast in the 1960s.

Adding to the 60th anniversary celebration, free, nightly Channel 9 projections on the wall of the Museum’s Old Gaol, will delight visitors and passes-by, with a kaleidoscope of light and illumination reflecting the exhibition. The projections run from 6.30pm to 10.30pm throughout the duration of the Channel 9 exhibition.

Nine Perth’s Head of Marketing, Communications & TV Programming, Peter Brennan, who was appointed project manager and exhibition curator, says the space will appeal to all ages.

“Channel 9 has played such an important role in supporting and shaping the WA community and impacted so many West Aussie lives since it began broadcasting in 1965,” Brennan said.

“This exhibition will take you back to the programs and the people you’ve grown up with and will undoubtedly conjure up some great memories. It also acts as a unique educational space, where kids can learn about the evolution of television from black and white to colour and digital, with a behind-the-scenes look at production, broadcasting and 9News.”

Nine Perth Managing Director, Clive Bingwa, encourages everyone to visit, saying: “We are proud to showcase our business so rich in history and much-loved by the community, here at the WA Museum – the heart of Perth’s cultural precinct.

“With 60 years of trust in WA, Nine Perth’s business today with its audience platforms across television, radio, digital and streaming, reaches more West Aussies than anyone else. In fact, in 2025 the 9Network in Perth is growing its Total TV audiences faster than anyone else, and 9News Perth is the fastest growing 6pm news service in Australia. Thank you WA for choosing Nine.”

WA Museum CEO, Alec Coles said: “Like many of our media outlets, Channel 9 is an Australian institution. Just like the WA Museum, it has shared stories about our state and its people over many decades.

“And just like the Museum, those stories can be hugely significant, deeply affecting and truly memorable.

“This exhibition will spark memories for so many of our visitors, whilst surprising, delighting and sometimes even shocking younger audiences.

“Any visit to Boola Bardip will give a sense of the many and diverse stories of our state. This exhibition will only enrich that visit.”

60 Years, Channel 9 Perth Exhibition at the WA Museum Boola Bardip is now open until August 31, daily 9.30am to 5.00pm. For further information and to book tickets, head to the WA Museum website.
