Channel 9 Perth closes out the year with record growth in Prime Time and Total TV

In a year dominated by shifting audience behaviour and fierce competition in Perth’s TV market, Channel 9 has a strong story to tell. They posted year-on-year gains across major demos and key pillars of its schedule. In 2025, Channel 9 Perth was the No.1 Primary Channel in prime time with People 25-54 and People 16-39. Key highlights for Channel 9 Perth are detailed below.

 

Channel 9 was also the only commercial FTA station in Perth to grow its primary channel prime time audiences year-on-year across ALL key demos: People 25-54 (+6.3%), People 16-39 (+5.1%), GS18+ (+3.2%) and Total People (+2.7%).

Furthermore, in 2025 the 9Network was the No.1 Network in Perth across commercial free-to-air shares in prime time with People 16-39.

The 9Network in Perth also increased its Total TV commercial share growth year-on-year with ALL key demos: People 25-54 (+2.8%), People 16-39 (+1.7%), GS18+ (+1.2%) and Total People (+0.9%).

News & Current Affairs in Perth:
In 2025, 9News 6.00 significantly increased its Perth weeknight audience year-on-year across ALL key demos: People 25-54 (+39.7%), People 16-39 (+42.9%), GS18+ (+25.2%) and Total People (+22.0%). Streaming numbers via 9Now were also up 54.3% year-on-year.

9News Afternoon also experienced year-on-year audience growth locally at 4.00 with People 25-54 (+29.4%), People 16-39 (+15.8%), GS18+ (+17.7%) and Total People (+15.3%). On 9Now, streaming numbers increased by 42.9%.

A Current Affair was Perth’s No.1 daily current affairs program, increasing its 7.00 audience year-on-year with People 25-54 (+33.4%), People 16-39 (+51.5%), GS18+ (+21.2%), Total People (+17.7%) as well as local BVOD up 51.3% on 9Now.

Meanwhile at breakfast, Today Perth live-and-local updates helped drive audience growth in 2025, up across ALL demos: People 25-54 (+34.7%), People 16-39 (+21.3%), GS18+ (+23.7%) and Total People (+21.6%). 9Now audience increased +36.5% year-on-year.

60 Minutes was Perth’s No.1 weekly commercial free-to-air current affairs program, growing Perth audiences with People 25-54 (+13.3%), People 16-39 (+34.7%), GS18+ (+12.6%) and Total People (+9.9%). It also delivered 30.8% growth in BVOD.

Entertainment Programs in Perth:
Married at First Sight was Perth’s No.1 reality TV series in 2025. It increased its full season average audience year-on-year in Perth across ALL key demos, with a Total TV average audience of 219,000, up +16.3% year-on-year.

Married At First Sight also delivered 19.6% local growth on 9Now and claimed Perth’s highest-rating live BVOD episode event of the year.

The 21st season of The Block increased its full season average audience year-on-year in Perth across ALL key demos with a Total TV average audience across Total TV of 125,000, up 26.2% on last year.

The Block also saw significant local BVOD growth on 9Now, up +36.0% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, Tipping Point Australia was the No.1 afternoon game show in Perth, significantly growing its 5pm timeslot locally year-on-year with ALL key demos: People 25-54 (+55.4%), People 16-39 (+55.6%), GS18+ (+32.7%) and Total People (+29.8%). It also grew its Perth audience on 9Now by an impressive +67.9% year-on-year.

Sport in Perth:
State of Origin grew its Game 1 and Game 2 audiences year-on-year in Perth with ALL key demos and Total People.

In 2025 State of Origin Game 2 recorded its highest ever Total TV audience for a State of Origin game in Perth with 191,000 viewers (+65% YoY). The 2025 State of Origin series also increased audiences year-on-year locally by +37.6% across Total TV and +40.4% on 9Now.

The NRL Grand Final was the highest-rating NRL Grand Final of all time in Perth, significantly increasing its Perth Total TV audience across ALL key demos and Total People (+54.6%).

The Australian Open Men’s Final delivered BVOD growth on 9Now in Perth year-on-year across all key demos and Total People (+13.0%).

In addition, the Australian Open Women’s Final saw significant year-on-year growth locally with all key demos and Total People across Total TV (+17.2%) as well as BVOD +51.1%.
