Channel 9 Perth and Perth Symphony Orchestra unite for 60th Anniversary musical tribute

On the eve of Channel 9 Perth’s 60th anniversary it has released a locally produced commemorative music video featuring a marvellous medley of its beloved theme tunes across the years, brought to life in a truly unique way by the Perth Symphony Orchestra.

The nostalgic tracks transformed include 9News, A Current Affair, Wide World of Sports, The Garden Gurus, Postcards WA and Just Add Water.

With special credit to Perth Symphony Orchestra’s Creative Director Fiona Campbell OAM and under conductor Greg Schultz (also Channel 9 Perth’s former Music Director), the video clip captures the ensemble in the recording studio performing the bespoke score, and the overlay of historic program vision will awaken nostalgic emotion, delivering a unique video clip that pays homage to the milestone.

Nine Perth’s Head of Marketing, Communications & TV Programming, Peter Brennan, said it has been a privilege to collaborate with the Perth Symphony Orchestra on this project.

Brennan said: “Nine has admired the work of the PSO for many years, and our aligned values around community engagement, innovation and inspiring and entertaining audiences made this a perfect synergy to mark our milestone.

“I’d like to thank PSO’s CEO Catherine Henwood and her team including the whole orchestra, for their incredible work to deliver us this remarkable medley.”

Nine Perth Managing Director, Clive Bingwa believes the assortment will capture the hearts of viewers of all generations.

This recording project marks the first collaboration between the Perth Symphony Orchestra and a media organisation on a medley of this calibre.

The medley is now available to preview on 9NOW.

The video clip will also feature at the end of the upcoming TV special Celebrating 60 Years, Channel 9 Perth, this Thursday, June 12, at 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now.
