Block launches ‘Retree’ campaign to drive tree replacement across Western Australia

Block has been engaged by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) to create Retree, a campaign that transforms a complex environmental initiative into a clear, actionable message – helping Western Australians replace trees removed to slow the spread of the polyphagous shot-hole borer.

Developed in close collaboration with DWER, Retree unites two separate government programmes, WA Tree Recovery and Treebate, under a single, direct idea: “1, 2, TREE.”

“The brief was about participation, not awareness,” said Mark Braddock, Co-Founder & Creative Strategy Director at Block. “People needed to know exactly what to do and feel good about doing it. So we built the campaign around a message that’s immediate, memorable and intuitive.”

Produced in-house at Block, Retree uses bold illustration and motion to convey renewal and optimism. The tone is simple, positive and human – a best-practice model for behaviour-change communication that prioritises clarity over complexity and action over awareness.

Launched across outdoor, digital, social and nursery environments, Retree invites Western Australians to check eligibility, claim their rebate and plant a tree.

Retree captures the essence of Block’s purpose: unleashing creativity to inspire positive transformation – one tree at a time.
