As WA border re-opens Koala relaunches sofa bed as ‘The McGowan’ in new print ad via The Royals

In a new print campaign by The Royals, Aussie furniture fave Koala is heralding the virtues of the renamed McGowan Sofa Bed, a product designed for these times that flips from sit to sleep in seconds.
Koala is running full-page ads in The Australian and Herald Sun to remind Aussies that flexible furniture definitely has a place in our homes in this new era.
The ads showcase the features of this McGowan Sofa Bed, formerly known as the Cushy Sofa Bed – it withstands large amounts of external pressure, retracts at the drop of a hat, and as expected, is extremely welcoming when open.
Says Sebastian Vizor, executive creative director, The Royals: “West Australians haven’t had much opportunity to welcome overnight guests to their homes, but today things are changing. The McGowan Sofa Bed is great when people come and great when people can’t.”
Says Bradley Firth, global brand strategy and creative VP, Koala: “What better way to celebrate Australia being open again than by highlighting The Cushy Sofa Bed… I mean, The McGowan Sofa Bed… perfect for hosting all your long-lost guests in comfort.”

Love this. Not enough of this sort of topical use of ads/media these days. Great work. Has generated massive PR.
Brilliant ad!! Please do a campaign…!
Also a good name for a pair of Flip Flops!
Perth agencies are so bad at topical ads. There is zero imagination from the current ECDs and CDs. 20 years ago we would have been all over these ads which would go on to win at Caxtons, PADC and CB. Such a shame that 303, MF, Brand, Rare, Gatecrasher don’t know how to have fun anymore.
We live in the new era of the ‘I ran in a race’ Perth creative director. All too comfortable and with no burning desire.
