Art takes stage in Wunderman Thompson’s new print ad for the West Australian Ballet
Wunderman Thompson brings the vision, genius and the master to life, in their new print for ‘echoes of VAN GOGH’ for West Australian Ballet.
Running in The West Australian and The Sunday Times, the new print piece merges the worlds of ballet and painting, to celebrate the arrival of ‘echoes of VAN GOGH’. Drawing parallels between a paint brush and a ballerina’s leg, the print seeks to celebrate the dedication with mastery in each respective art form.
Tim Newton, Creative Lead at Wunderman Thompson, said: ‘There was a parallel between the dedication Van Gogh brought to his work, and the dedication West Australian Ballet spent bringing it to life. We felt the meeting of these two worlds, created the opportunity for us to push ourselves a little, too.’
Inspired by the life of one of the most famous figures in Western art history, ‘echoes of VAN GOGH’ delves into Vincent van Gogh’s yearning for identity, belonging and a place in the world, in a passionate and complex new ballet from award-winning Dutch choreographer, Wubkje Kuindersma.
From the muted colours of peasant life to the bright landscapes of Arles, ‘echoes of VAN GOGH’ showcases some of the his most prominent artworks in a literal large-scale moving masterpiece.
Wunderman Thompson enlisted renowned Perth photographer Luke Carter Wilton, to elevate the craft of this piece.

LCW is a gift to this industry. Well done everyone.
Love it
This is craft. Amazing work.
Well done Tim Newton on keeping the intentional approach to creative excellence going for this client. Clearly it has been singled out as an opportunity to produce exceptional work; that doesn’t happen by accident. If more people in Perth agencies took this approach to creating opportunities and not waiting for them the standard of work and related awards would be higher.
Simply stunning work, well done to everyone involved.
Well said. The standard of creativity out of most agencies is terrible. Ads like this used to appear out of Perth agencies every week. MDs need to push their CDs and their creative department for better work. Most creative departments (Rare, Brand, 303ML etc) have nothing to show from the past 2 years. Very sad that creatives don’t want to do great work.
The body copy feels unecessary. I’m sure it was a client mandatory, but if there’s a version of this that ran sans copy, enter that. Would make for a great poster/OOH piece, too. Best thing out of Perth, that’s not from Wildlings, this year.
“… not from Wildings”. LOL! A benchmark indeed.
Exceptional. Keep coming back to look at it. Huge congrats guys.
Simply beautiful. Nice work Tim, Paula and the rest of the team.
Amazing work as always from the WT team.
Jealousy and awe.
Gorgeous work. Barre has been set.
They say never read the reviews…
…but you folks have my week, so thanks for feels – means a lot – and let’s make more great work together.
Such a beautiful idea.
Love love love it!
