Advertising Council Australia and BlackCard team up to boost cultural confidence

To mark NAIDOC Week, Advertising Council Australia (ACA) has partnered with BlackCard Training — a 100% Aboriginal-owned and Supply Nation-certified business — to offer member and non member agencies access to a suite of e-learning modules designed to deepen their cultural understanding and confidence.
Developed by respected Aboriginal Elders, educators and authors Dr Lilla Watson and Dr Mary Graham, the BlackCard program provides practical insights into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, and ways of thinking, and aims to strengthen participants’ ability to work effectively and respectfully with all people but particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
“This is the first time a program of its kind has been created with direct input from expert course developers, learning designers, and animators, and given the final tick of approval by the Elders of BlackCard,” said Mundanara Bayles, BlackCard Founder. “It goes beyond 1788 and colonial narratives to share Aboriginal Terms of Reference and ways of knowing that have existed for tens of thousands of years.
“This world-class learning experience will spark greater awareness and pride in the fact that we live in a country that’s home to the world’s oldest living continuous culture.”
Melissa Vella, ACA WA State Manager, said: “ACA’s support of BlackCard reflects our ongoing commitment to Reconciliation, cultural learning, and driving meaningful change across the advertising industry. NAIDOC Week is a time to reflect, engage and take action, and this is a great place to start.”
As part of the initiative, ACA members can access three of BlackCard’s new e-learning modules at a discounted rate of $99. Non members can also take part, for the standard price of $200.
They cover:
● An introduction to Aboriginal Terms of Reference
● The impacts of past government policies and the importance of Reconciliation
● Understanding ancient protocols and their ongoing purpose and meaning
