ABC Radio Perth’s Local Manager Sarah Knight chats to The Experts Podcast

The Experts Podcast, a locally produced media and communications podcast has been bringing some of the big guns into the studio for a chat in 2022. This year the hosts Nic Hayes and Carmen Braidwood have chatted to Perth’s biggest online influencer in Ashleigh Jade, former FM breakfast radio host Heidi Anderson and now marketer but the biggest one is to come. Sarah Knight does not have a radio slot, doesn’t even have an Instagram page but might be the most influential person in Perth media.

Knight is the boss of Perth ABC Radio and joined Nic and Carmen on the podcast for a candid chat on what is going on in radio here in the west. What makes a good story, good radio? Do you listen to your competition? So many of the questions that you ask of the person responsible for delivering the daily programs of the national broadcaster here in Western Australia. Knight is a broadcaster in her own right and if you lived in Perth or in the regions of WA you will have no doubt heard her as she has been at the ABC for thirty-three years.

The conversation turned serious midway through the podcast when Knight was asked what the loss of Russell “Rusty” Woolf former breakfast host who died suddenly last year mean to her. One of the hardest moments in this career broadcaster’s life but also such a privilege to be able to honour the man on air. It did not stop there as Knight was asked about the passing of Eoin “Cammo” Cameron in 2016 and what that meant to her and the ABC family? With some tears and laughter all three remembered these radio legends.

It is truly clear that Knight is focused on local with every decision that is made. The Experts co-hosts quiz Knight on how the new breakfast presenter Tom Baddeley was appointed and it all started at an event in Perth last year. “What are you doing these days?” Tom is now four weeks in the role and is settling into the job nicely.
