Cathal Mongey earns a creative role at Moonsail, succeeding the dearly departed Joseph Wilkie

Joe Wilkie has passed the Copywriting role at Moonsail over to Australian Young Lions creative partner Cathal Mongey, as he leaves to join VML Canada.

Wilkie has departed Moonsail after three years as Copywriter. Having spent his formative creative days writing for clients such as Transperth, Synergy and Linley Valley Pork, he has now found peace at VML Canada.

“Wilkie was loved and adored by colleagues and clients alike, and had a knack for cracking the toughest of briefs from truly unexpected angles,” recalled Matt Nankivell, Creative Director and close acquaintance of Wilkie. “But with that being said, we’ve already replaced him with the smooth-talking golden boy, Cathal Mongey.”

Wilkie and Mongey first met at Emergence Festival in 2025 and decided soon thereafter that they were destined to work together. Although working for two separate companies at the time, the pair realised their dream by winning the Australian Cannes Young Lions Film competition and placing in the top five teams globally.

“I’ll be forever grateful for the patience and guidance Joe gave me in my early creative days. It kinda feels a little like I’m Anakin usurping my master Joebiwan,” reflected Mongey.

Mongey brings an unconventional creative flair to the Moonsail ranks. For the past two years, the soon-to-be-published Children’s Author has dabbled in the world of storybooks, musical albums and theatre, all outside his 9-5 duties. Having recently been named Campaign Brief WA’s Supernova of the Year in May, Mongey’s trajectory aligns perfectly with the exciting business growth unfolding at Moonsail.

Wilkie is remembered for his wit and creative bravery. A celebration of his work will be held in the smoking area of the PADC After Party in November. In lieu of flowers, you can buy him a drink.
