WA Screen Culture Awards: deadline 13 October
Time is running out! There’s only a few more days to submit your entries in for the 2024 WA Screen Culture Awards (WASCA), taking place on Sunday 1 December at Luna Palace Cinemas Leederville. Submissions close 13 October.
Founded by the team behind the Revelation Perth International Film Festival, the WASCAs are the only awards in Western Australia dedicated to recognising achievement and innovation across all facets of screen culture.
“The WASCAs are created by the industry, for the industry,” says Richard Sowada, Director of Revelation. “This year, we’re excited to present 12 Innovation Awards, 9 Outstanding Achievement Awards and two Special Awards honouring Contribution to Industry and Independent Spirit.”
Established in 2020, the awards serve as a platform to celebrate the talent and dedication of local practitioners. “Our event relies heavily on the support of our partners, as we operate without funding from any screen or cultural bodies,” Sowada adds.
An esteemed panel of industry judges will evaluate nominations in each category. This year, we’re proud to include notable figures such as cinematographer Frank Mobilio, known for his work on music videos for artists like Harry Styles (Watermelon Sugar), Miley Cyrus (Jaded), and Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ from the Barbie movie.
Joining him are creative visionary Ken Leung, former Global Creative Director at UNIQLO, and actor Martin Casella, recognised for his roles in classics like Poltergeist (1982) and Raiders of the Lost Ark (1991), as well as Nicholas Hope from Bad Boy Bubby (1993).
The judging panel also features AFI-Award winning actress Fiona Press, beloved Neighbours star Lucinda Cowden, and Pru Montin, one of Australia’s most innovative film composers and sound designers.
Entries can be submitted via Film Freeway, while submissions for the Special Awards will be accepted via email.
