7NEWS and RAC honour Local Champions
On Wednesday evening, over 100 people gathered to recognise volunteers, caregivers and unsung heroes of our state at the 7NEWS Local Champions Awards Night, supported by RAC.
Over 10 weeks, 7NEWS shared stories of Local Champions who were nominated by fellow community members for their wonderful contribution to the community.
With the support of RAC, WA’s local insurer, a total of $15,500 in prize money was awarded across eight categories, acknowledging the recipients’ significant contributions and impact on the local community. The overall winner received a major prize of $5,000.
Dandelion, a community group providing much needed resources to those in need, was crowned the 7NEWS RAC Local Champion. The moment was broadcasted live on 7NEWS Perth reaching 174,000 viewers on Wednesday night.
7NEWS Perth, director, Ray Kuka, said: “There were so many ‘pinch yourself’ moments on Wednesday night reliving some of the stories of incredible people doing things to make our city a better place.
“It was quite emotional for everyone. The finalists and winners make you feel proud to live in Perth and in WA.
“The 7NEWS team is also really proud to help share the real stories from the suburbs and make them a priority for our viewers.”
