Penguin Empire director Melle Branson shortlisted for Young Director Award

Penguin Empire director Melle Branson has been shortlisted for the prestigious Young Director Awards (YDA).

Celebrating its 26th year, the Young Director Awards is widely regarded as one of the most accurate showcases for identifying the next generation of directing talent in the advertising industry. Their focus is on recognizing outstanding directors who display exceptional skills, innovation, and a fresh perspective.

Melle’s passion project ‘CONTENT KINGZ’ was initially created as part of the global Musicbed Challenge where it went on to win the Best Spec Ad category.

“We are incredibly proud (but entirely unsurprised) that Melle has been recognized by the YDA and feel this is just further proof that Melle is an emerging force within WA’s advertising industry.” said Kelvin Munro, Executive Producer at The Penguin Empire. “Something tells me this is just the beginning for Melle’s work being celebrated internationally. Her voice and style are so distinctive that she can’t help but stand out.”

The winners of the Young Director Awards will be announced in Cannes on June 22.

In the meantime, Branson has continued to make waves with her latest work ‘OUR PLACE’ which celebrates the eclectic cast of characters who run local restaurant: Testun.

“Melle’s directorial prowess shines through once again in Our Place,” says Munro. “Everything Melle directs ends up dripping in an electric contradiction of authenticity and style. I can’t wait to see what she turns her lens onto next.”
