City of Fremantle releases ‘Christmas like a pro in Freo’ via &Partners and Match & Wood
This Christmas, The City of Fremantle is offering shoppers a smarter way to spend their time and money. The campaign featuring online video, audio and social media was planned by Match & Wood, created by &Partners and produced by Dave Le May.
The new campaign ‘Christmas like a pro in Freo’ reminds us that we don’t need to join the swarms of panic-stricken shoppers, elbowing their way in and out of florescent-lit shopping factories. We can in fact opt for a more civilised experience and ‘Christmas like a pro, in Freo’.
The campaign promotes the proof-points that make Fremantle shopping trips more successful. There’s the famous Freo hospitality, supported by cafes, restaurants, bars and entertainment attractions; the broad range of independent retailers offering more inspiring gifts; and the creative spirit and unique Freo vibe.
Matt Hammond, Director City Business at City of Fremantle, said: “Fremantle’s retail scene continues to prove that our independent and creative business owners offer shoppers a unique experience that the big shopping centres just can’t. Our retailers are so much more connected to their customers and the in-store experience is unrivalled. There’s nowhere in WA that can offer the same hospitality, creativity and authenticity as Fremantle.”
Each execution stars a Freo local offering pro-tips for easier, more successful shopping experiences. Kevin Sanderson of Corner Store talks about gift shopping at independent stores, musician Grace Barbé shows us how to enjoy a post shopping moment and jet boat pilot Jimmy McGovern proves how powerful experiences can be.

Love the local approach! This makes me proud to call Freo home- local talent, doing their thing is tricky production territory, and you’ve let them loose. This feels cheeky, true, and really fun – well done.
err, agency filling in as extras in a still shot?
Fremantle has a really clear and distinct positioning and this work captures that reality. It is interesting to compare this to the City of Perth – I can’t articulate what the offer is and what the advertising means if and when I see it. And then of course it keeps changing and has no ongoing consistent theme.
Nice stuff &Partners, that’s so Freo. Lovely to see you enjoying the boat ride too Dav.
Well done. The message is vive la difference and that’s a great message. Freo is different and these stories highlight and reinforce that.
