Iconic Perth photographic studio Illustrations closing tomorrow after 100 storied years

For the last time, Illustrations will turn off the Studio lights tomorrow – Friday, February 14.
Director, Liz McCann, said the first quarter of 2020 was the obvious choice to close the door on Illustrations’ colourful and creative history, as it coincides with the business’s centenary.
“No doubt the decision will be a surprise to many. It has, however, been reached after several months of very careful consideration. Put simply, the time is right.
“We would like to thank our Studio clients for the wonderful opportunities they have given us to bring their concepts to life. Thank you also to our Print Lab clients for entrusting us with their pressing deadlines and dispatch logistics.
“Without the willingness and agility of our suppliers we could not have provided our exceptional and reliable service for so many years.
“And finally, to the Illustrations team – Simon Westlake, Nina Otranto, Ana Lees and Simon Newall, you are all steadfastly loyal, insanely talented and mercifully politically incorrect! It’s been an absolute privilege, and a joy, to work with you all.”
Started in 1920, Illustrations rose to prominence within the advertising industry under legendary photographer Noel Holly, who took control in the 60s and built it into Perth’s premier photography studio.
The business has been carried on by McCann and Holly’s wife Gill since his passing in 2014.
Staff photographers Simon Westlake and Nina Otranto have established their own new businesses, the details of which will be announced soon.

What a legacy! Sad to see you go!
Yeah. Probably time for a grog.
Such a huge part of the Perth advertising industry over the years. Sad to see Illustrations Photography go
Illustrations was my first employer in the industry. I also met my wife at Illustrations. Surprised and sad to see the doors close.
In the early 1970’s I didn’t know much about advertising, but I knew something about the people I wanted to work with and Noel Holly was the first photographer I ever used. What an education. His talent saved my blushes while I learned my craft and I’m sure I was no orphan. Thank you Illustrations for giving so many of us a ton of great memories. Best wishes to Liz, Gill, Nina, Ana and the two Simons.
Shit.
