7NEWS duo Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr draw massive crowds for 40 years celebration

Hundreds of fans gathered at Lakeside Joondalup and Cockburn Gateway this week to celebrate 40 years on air with beloved news duo Rick Ardon and Susannah Carr.

In a true testament to their enduring popularity, many viewers lined up for over three hours to meet the record-breaking news presenters who have been a trusted presence in their homes for four decades.

Attendees were treated to exclusive commemorative memorabilia, including a limited-edition Rick and Sue medallion, crafted from aluminium bronze and plated in 99.99% pure gold by The Perth Mint – alongside a special edition of Sunday Times Magazine, signed fan cards, and 7NEWS cupcakes.

Ardon and Carr, officially recognised in 2022 as the world record holders for the longest serving news anchor duo, were genuinely moved by the turnout.

“We were overwhelmed by the response because it’s so nice to know that people appreciate us being part of their lives for the last 40 years. It was pretty humbling actually,” Carr said.

Ardon agreed, saying he was grateful for the support of the community.

“It was fantastic to be able to celebrate this milestone with our viewers, without them we wouldn’t be here,” he said.

“Being able to give them the commemorative medallion from the Perth Mint as a keepsake was really special and I’m truly grateful for their continued support.”

The month-long campaign culminates with the Rick and Sue primetime TV special on Wednesday 26 February at 6.30pm, followed by the release of a commemorative magazine in The West Australian on March 1st.
